Article 75 - Sword Art Online Review

Do you enjoy Role Playing Games (RPG)? Can you take it to he next level and play RPG Online with and against numbers of others in Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG)? Sword Art Online will take you to that level of experience.

In the first half of the season, you learn about the game's interface and gameplay. The anime is very intuitive, a casual gamer can easily follow along the series. At first, one might be confused with another MMORPG anime, the .Hack series. This series is nothing of that sort, it is filled with action and amazing visuals.

The anime stands out, the animation is done well. A lot of the elements is directly from in game experience. For example, the anime characters view the Heads Up Display (HUD) as if playing a real game. The HUD is displayed in front of the character, and the character selects options by picking options and choices. The audience can correlate the character's experience as their own.

A lot of the animation is very fluid. Sometimes, the audience sees through the eyes of the main character. When this happens, a HUD display is also visible, often depicted with the Health Power (HP) meter in one of the corners. This is type of HUD is common in almost all games, which makes this anime stand out.

Music and sound effects is important in an anime, and this anime makes uses of strong sound effects. When the audience views through the eyes of the character, a type of scanning sound is audible. This is particularly noticable when scanning strong enemies. It is realistic and common in games and makes the anime easier to relate to.

The plot is fast pace, often time gaps occur throughout the series. The anime focuses mostly on the core events, nonetheless, this captures the vital story points. It would be nice to have more of the story dragged out, such as how the main character levels up so fast and strong.

Unfourtunately, the anime is only 25 episodes in length, it would be nice to have an extended version.
