Article 79 - Timeshift Review

Timeshift looks and feels great. The gameplay is very fluid and smooth. Somehow, the developers managed to make the game feel as the player was sliding on ice.

The story of Timeshift involves playing with time. It is a new type of gameplay, a revolutionary after the famous bullet-time gameplay. The player is given controls that can reverse, stop, or slow down time.

Playing around with time has an advantage, it allows the player to interact with the environment differently. In fact, some scenarios require the use of the time machine to properly survive. Other times, reversing time can reverse the motion of a bullet, for example.

Of course, slowing down or stopping time gives the player more time to react. But it is reversing time that truly mesmerizes.

Unfourtunately, the game suffers from poor drawing distances. Even when the graphics is set to maximum, objects in the distance are very blurry. This can strain the eye and cause annoyances. However, it is there since the game has visuals that require a lot of processing power.

Far away objects are really blurry and big, which strains the eye.

The artificial intelligence is nothing superb, in fact it is sub par with enemies just running around amuck while you shoot them down.

Too bad we cannot hop fences as well.

For most of the time, it is always raining. Rain uses a lot of graphics processing power. Furthermore, the game has a lot of shadow that it needs to draw. Needlessly, the rain and shadow effects are done very well, they look extremely realistic.

The rain and background renders so well.

The soft shadows produced by the fence requires a lot of graphical processing power.

This is by far one of the best smoke effects seen in games.
