FEAR is the name given to a video game that really stands for First Encounter Assault Recon. A game that is superb in many aspects.
Those who are unfamiliar with the game will quickly realize that the game is creepy and spooky at all times. Afterall, the game is built on the element of surprise and mysterious events that you encounter throughout the game. Without giving away spoilers, a quick overview of the game would indicate the reason for the game's popularity.
The story involves a mysterious girl named Alma, who haunts you whereever you are. Who is this girl, you may ask? Play the game to find out.
You are the role of a soldier as part of the FEAR squadron. Your job is to infiltrate and uncover the disaster as reported. Yet, you happen to discover more than what you expected.
The graphics is excellent, there is a lot of detailed things that you can see. If you play the game slowly, you will notice many aspects in the game that make it beautiful.
The artificial intelligence is done extremely well. I have noticed that enemies can try to out flank you by finding a route to your back or sides. I have been killed many times like this. Enemies are intelligent enough to flip over tables, couches and leap over them for safety.
The sound in the game is not too bad, although I would not say that there is a lot of variety. Most of the time, you are wandering off in complete silence because the game focuses on surprise.
I must mention that at one section of the game, where a lot of outdoor environment takes place, the environment was generated poorly. Buildings were simplified to the point that it made the game worse.
FEAR has a lot to promise. It is not a terribly long game but packs enough for anyone to give it a shot.
